CEBU CITY (Oct. 19, 2016)The Bosconian Odyssey now has the bridge crew who would steer back the student publication to relevance to the present, past and future students of Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Cebu, their families and the rest of the school community.

The student development committee (SDC) of the DBTC Parent-Teachers Community Association (PTCA) chose the line-up after a rigid screening process after the prospective student writers went through a series of seminars.

PTCA vice president Cerwin T. Eviota, also the SDC chair, disclosed the line-up of the revival editorial team during the organizational meeting of the selected editors in a Grade 11 classroom today.

Leading them as editor-in-chief is Jay Arche “AJ” P. Olor who will be backed by Christian Robic “Hermie” M. Hermosa as associate editor and Fritz John “Gab” S. Gabriente as managing editor.

The section editors include Angelo Domini “Gelo” B. Nuñez for news, Javin Stefan R. Tan for features, Ray Louis A. Arcilla for literary works, and Luis Joaquin E. Buyco for sports.

Denish Niño G. Crisologo, Rex Exequiel O. Ibona, and Jed Nathaniel C. Largo will handle first level editions as copy editors with Chesyne Danielle G. Pepito, who will help edit articles by elementary writers.

Creative

Meanwhile, Mikhael Cristan P. Lumauag and Jose Enrico “Joko” V. Maxino will serve as deputies to Hermosa and Gabriente, respectively, while they also handle special assignments like investigative reports.

Under the Integrated Media and Communications (IMaC) program pursued by the PTCA student development committee, a creative department has been created with Adrienne James “AJ” P. Cabaron as creative director.

He will be assisted by Marion Jose Tan as associate director, who will also handle video editing and motion graphics, and Jerkin Razhed “Jaykin” Postanes as chief photographer with Nathaniel Jose “Nathan” D. Mondoy as videographer.

The PTCA SDC decided on the line-up after a panel interview its chair led with the school principal, Fr. Jerome Mario “Jim-Jim” C. Dublois, SDB, on Oct. 12 and 13 at the office the PTCA will now share with the publication.

Mr. Judan Sta. Teresa, senior high school assistant principal, and faculty adviser Mdm. Estrellita “Star” Abian joined the panel that took turns in quizzing the candidates, one after the other.

The panel needed to determine who could best fit in every role in the student organization. Other than their ability to write good English and edit, it also took into consideration their leadership and ability to tackle specific circumstances.

Priority

Only those who showed potentials from the writing and editing tests given on Oct. 8 at the Grade 11 classrooms for the writers from Grades 4 to 11 were invited for interview, it was learned.

Abian, English teacher for senior high school, and Ms. Ruella Estrella, faculty coordinator for elementary and junior high school, first screened the output of the tests by the writers.

They also pre-selected them to attend the pre-screening seminars with veteran journalists and award-winning online professionals last Sept 24 and Oct. 1 at the school AVR.

The rest who did not make it to the editorial board will still be part of the Student Press Corps (SPC) as card-bearing members whose articles will be given priority for publication in print and online.

The editors will also tap for news gathering assignments the SPC members who will be called for a briefing after the end of the 2nd Periodical Tests on Oct. 27, 1AM, at the school library.

The DBTC PTCA initiated and pursued the revival of the Bosconian Odyssey after its board of trustees approved the IMaC program crafted by its SDC.
