CEBU CITY (Jan. 7, 2017) — Citizen Army Training (CAT) cadets and card-bearing members of the Boys Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) in DBTC Cebu have cleaned up the whole campus in a joint civic action activity today.
Sir Judan Sanchez Sta. Teresa, senior high school assistant principal, led and guided the boys with P2Lt. Renato Navarette, the CAT commandant.
Sta. Teresa said this initiative is a start of what will be a widespread effort towards inculcating the right habits among Bosconians in disposing garbage properly.
This came as trustees of the Parents Teachers Community Association discussed with Fr. Godofredo Atienza, SDB, superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco – Philippine South Province, in a meeting last Oct. 8 their deep concern about indiscriminate throwing of garbage in the campus.
It sparked the idea of organizing soon a Waste Summit among DBTC stakeholders — student leaders, parents, teachers, personnel, Salesians, Salesian cooperators, and community leaders — to come up with a comprehensive yet sustainable and collaborative solid waste management program.
The photos posted in this publication’s Facebook page shows the scouts and cadets in action.
An album in the Facebook profile of Ms. Marichu Librea, elementary assistant principal, also shows some elementary students who volunteered for the clean-up.
Details of this activity will be reported soon in Balitang Bosco – 2nd Episode later this month, and in Vol. 18 – No. 2 of the Bosconian Odyssey magazine scheduled for release in March 2017.

During our time in Don Bosco until probably with batches towards the end of the 90’s, we do this clean-up almost everyday, even cleaning toilet bowls and urinals.
Today, Japanese schools end the day with all students cleaning the classrooms and common areas in a practice called “osuji” that trains one to be patient, persevering and strong-willed..
