CEBU CITY (Feb. 28, 2017)Representatives from 30 out of 54 alumni batches from 1962 to 2016 of what is now Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) elected their nine Trustees, who subsequently elected Jef Goopio Calomarde of Batch 1980 as president.


The new president and trustees of Don Bosco Cebu Alumni, Inc. (DBCAI) will serve a 2-year term in 2017 and 2018.

“It was the highest turnout in DBCAI election history and the trustees definitely got an overwhelming mandate,” remarked Arch’t. Eric Cabaluna Nacorda, a past president.

Nacorda organized the Feb. 26 election held after the DBTC Alumni Mass at the DBTC Library as COMELEC with past presidents Eng’r Michael Manlangit, Eng’r. Dan Jabagat and Neil Montesclaros.

DBTC Salesian delegate Fr. Alan Ross Banogon, SDB, who is DBTC’s vice president for administration and a Batch 1979 alumnus, witnessed the proceedings, a process that his office initiated two weeks earlier.

All elected will serve as trustee for the first time, including Calomarde.

But DBCAI once designated Calomarde as delegate to, and got elected as vice president, of Don Bosco National Alumni Federation (DBNAF), and further served as delegate to the International Federation of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco.

Winning an all-out landslide victory, Calomarde’s team campaigned with the battle-cry “Get Back! Give Back!” and the theme “Realizing Further Don Bosco’s Amazing Grace.”

The trustees will meet for their organizational meeting to select the vice presidents and other officers on March 10, 6:30 PM, at the DBCAI office in DBTC.

PAST presidents serving as COMELEC, chair Mike Manlangit (1980) and member Dan Jabagat (1983) (both at left) proclaim the winning nominees as trustees, like Chriad Don “Baka” Bacalso (2008) and Jef G. Calomarde (1980), who the trustees subsequently chose as president.

Their plans include the revision of the DBCAI constitution and by-laws, the continuation of relevant programs from past administrations, especially the sports and fellowship activities, and revival of alumni organizations in universities.

“We will conduct an online survey and consult fellow alumni and our Salesian fathers so that we could come up with programs that are truly responsive to and relevant for all Bosconians,” said Calomarde.

Recognized as co-founder of Bosconians Family for Christ (BFC), Calomarde is also a senator of Junior Chamber International that he served as trainer, Cebu chapter president and national vice president.

He’s been a sales and marketing executive in retail, shipping, logistics, manufacturing and construction industries.

Calomarde is now general manager of Hardipro Mfg. Corp. that produces Mega tile adhesive, skim coat, precast walls and Primo PVC roofing, and consultant of Philippine Macro Development Corp., a general contractor.

paclipanPaclipan is the chief finance officer and concurrent chief technology officer of Auksilyo Professionals Inc. The company provides Architectural CAD, software, and product engineering services.

escalaAfter two decades working with a leading semiconductor company on projects in various global locations for specialized applications, Escala returned to Cebu for good and now works senior mechanical design engineer at Lexmark Research & Development Corporation, developing imaging and printing technologies.

castroCastro runs and operates the popular Jayan’s Catering and Services and also the sought-after Señor Andres Lechon Baka & Kanding. He also rents out tents, tables and chairs for various occasions.

escobidoA basketball coach in tandem with batchmates Ian Brigoli and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) hotshot Dondon Hontiveros, Escobido is the area manager of Lolo Tinong’s Bakery, Inc. He also serves as operations manager of its subsidiary, Vital Kneads, Inc. that operates particular branches of the bakery chain in Cebu.

sanicoSanico is a video production and editing specialist who currently works in Cebu for TV 5 Cebu of Media Quest Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company. He is also a sports events organizer.

mercadoMeanwhile, Mercado, who is an industrial engineer, is the chief operations officer of the family-controlled Cebu Sherilin Trading Corp., a custom profile manufacturer of plastic for industrial application and vinyl polybags from low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyethylene (PP), stretch film and plastic injection materials.

bacalsoBacalso is a marketing executive at Autowelt BMW of Gateway Motors Cebu Inc.  He is the chief operating officer of Alivio Mellana Bacalso (AMB) Construction, and runs R&B Trading that ventures into general merchandise.

asignarThe only student and the youngest among the trustees known as a spitfire pointguard in basketball, Asignar graduated in DBTC two years ago.  He is now a BS Electronics Engineering sophomore at the University of San Carlos.

Immediately after their proclamation, the new Trustees buckled down for work, starting it aptly with a prayer, a trademark among Bosconians.
